Experimental Prototype

Sparks are flying and your ears are ringing of hammer-forged steel. Cut, fit, test and start again. This is the skill and grit that it takes to develop something worthy.

Carroll Shelby and his team did it over and over again, and so did we. Custom tailored fit, perfect balance of weight and comfort. It's called the Legacy Tee for good reason. You're welcome.

  • Super fine 100% organic cotton jersey
  • Fully taped shoulder seam construction
  • Contrasting 'Shelby' blue neck insert
  • Old school soft discharge print, front and back
  • Pre-shrunk for lasting fit
  • Hand-forged in Canada

Your Thoroughbred Crewneck has embroidery and felt appliqué.

While durable for machine wash, we suggest washing inside out, cold (30°) and lay flat to dry.

In order to best determine fit, we advise comparing our garment’s measurements to a similar garment you already own. Lay your garment flat and take all measurements from the outside of the garment.

Our Shelby American™ Collection is inspired by Carroll Shelby and his legacy of high performance vehicles.

The Turd

In 1964 Shelby needed an answer to the upcoming Corvette threat and specifically the Corvette Grand Sport built by Zora Duntov. As a response, Ken Miles helped prepare the Cobra ‘Flip-Top’ prototype, a new thin-gauge aluminum body built on a Daytona Coupe chassis. The experimental Cobra, Chassis No. CSX2196 was outfitted with a forward-flipping front end and a rear-hinged section. This allowed for increased accessibility to the many experimental engines that were fitted, primarily used to test the big-block 427 cu. in. engine. During its Sebring debut, it suffered from numerous problems so the 427 was replaced with a lighter experimental 390-inch aluminum big block for actual competition. The lessons learned with CSX2196 paved the way for the next generation Cobra, with a wide body, coil spring suspension and 427 cubic inches of big-block Ford power.

The details tell a story

It's a fascinating process, the building of a garment. It starts with fabric, cut into pieces that passes through many hands, stitched thousands of times and scraped with ink.

But in the end, it becomes greater than all its parts. It tells a great story of design, craftsmanship and passion.

The chicken farmer

While tending to his chickens, Carroll Shelby's wife casually reminded him, "…don't you have a race to go to?".

Arriving late, with no time to change, he made his way straight to a first place finish – still wearing his hickory denim overalls. He made this 'fashion statement' his signature racing attire.

With a nod to his quirkiness, we've integrated the hickory striped pattern into the neck panel of this sweater.
