In 1965, Shelby American etched its name into motorsports history by winning the FIA World Sportscar Championship for GT Manufacturers – the first and only American team to do so. This victory placed Shelby alongside Europe’s most storied marques and proved that American ingenuity, determination, and engineering could triumph on the world stage.
At the heart of this achievement was the Cobra Daytona Coupe, an aerodynamic evolution of the legendary Cobra roadster, designed by Peter Brock and developed under Carroll Shelby’s team. With its mix of raw power and breakthrough aerodynamics, the Daytona Coupe became the decisive weapon that carried Shelby to its historic 1965 world championship.
